The 2024 Equestrian Queensland Annual QOTT Leaderboard for Off-The-Track Standardbreds has been a testament to the versatility and talent of this incredible breed. The year-long competition showcased the Standardbred’s ability to excel in multiple equestrian disciplines, and we are thrilled to celebrate the success of these exceptional horses and their dedicated riders and drivers.

Of the four disciplines represented—Dressage, Eventing, Jumping, and Driving—three of the leading champions were proudly rehomed through the SAQ Horse Placement Program. This achievement highlights not only the resilience and adaptability of these horses but also the vital role the SAQ Horse Placement Program plays in giving retired racehorses a bright future in new careers.

2024 QOTT Standardbred Leaderboard Champions are:

  • Dressage Champion: SUPER FALCON ridden by Verona Begadon
  • Eventing Champion: STORM DELLE ridden by Claire Baylis
  • Jumping Champion: MR KALYPSO ridden by John Macdonald
  • Driving Champion: HAPPY LIFE driven by Debbie King

A special congratulations to SAQ members Verona Begadon, Claire Baylis, John Macdonald, and Debbie King for their exceptional performances. Each of these champions embodies the remarkable athleticism and heart of the Standardbred breed.

Particular recognition must go to SUPER FALCON, STORM DELLE, and MR KALYPSO—all three champions rehomed through the SAQ Horse Placement Program. Their success is a source of immense pride for everyone involved in their journey from the racetrack to the winner’s podium. Their achievements highlight the transformative impact of thoughtful rehoming and retraining, and the dedication of their new owners in unlocking their full potential.

The success of these horses reflects the broader mission of the SAQ: to provide meaningful second chances for Standardbreds through a rehoming program that has rehomed more than 1,300 horses over 22 years. It’s a reminder that with the right care and opportunities, retired racehorses can thrive in a wide range of disciplines.

To all participants in this year’s leaderboard, congratulations on your hard work and dedication. To the champions, thank you for showcasing the greatness of the Standardbred breed. Your success inspires others to see the potential of these amazing horses and to consider them as partners for life beyond the track.

Here’s to more milestones for OTT Standardbreds and the ongoing success of the SAQ Horse Placement Program!
