About Bridget

Bridget is a striking 12yo brown/black Standardbred mare with a solid build, pretty looks, and a wonderful presence.

She retired sound from racing in May 2022 after an impressive 163 starts and earnings of just over $62,500.

As a former trotter, Bridget is naturally a very nice mover and shows plenty of potential for life after racing. After her racing career, Bridget spent 12 months in a pleasure harness home before returning to her original owner in 2023, who then attempted (unsuccessfully) to breed from her. Throughout it all, she has remained a sensible, well mannered, and easy mare to do anything with.

She is good to catch, shoe, worm, float and handle in general. Bridget does have an alpha streak and can be a little bossy with other horses, so she would be best suited to a home that understands herd dynamics. She has been exposed to farm machinery, vehicles, other animals, and children, and takes it all in stride.

While she hasn’t been started under saddle yet, her steady temperament suggests she would adapt well with the right guidance. Bridget is very well behaved in harness and her trainer believes she would truly excel as a pleasure harness horse.

With her good looks, movement, and manners, she also shows potential for disciplines such as showing, dressage, or trail and pleasure riding once under saddle.

RULE CHANGE COMING

With the phasing out of freeze branding, owners entering Standardbred and partbred Standardbred horses in breed classes at agricultural shows and other equine events across Australia, where breed is relevant, must be current financial members and horses registered with the home state’s Standardbred Pleasure and Performance Horse Association.
