The Standardbred Association of Queensland invites all harness racing trainers, owners and enthusiasts to get involved in our 2025 State Hacking and Harness Championships, taking place on 13–14 September at the Gatton Showgrounds and Indoor Equestrian Centre.
This event, proudly sponsored by QOTT, is the highlight of our show calendar and a great opportunity to showcase the versatility of the Standardbred. Whether you’re currently racing, recently retired or just interested in the breed’s potential off the track, there’s something here for you.
Our program offers classes for racehorses, designed specifically for horses that are either still racing or have retired in the past 3 months. These classes give your horse the chance to experience the show ring while still looking the part of a racehorse. It’s a great way to add value and exposure to your horse, whether you’re looking to transition them into a new career or simply want to celebrate their racing achievements.
In addition to the Racehorse Classes, we also have a full program of Hacking, Led, Rider, and Harness events. Horses are grouped by experience, so whether your Standardbred is freshly retired or has had a few years in the show ring, there’s a class to suit. We’ve worked hard to make the program friendly for newcomers while still offering a challenge for seasoned competitors.
The atmosphere is relaxed, the facilities are excellent, and the indoor arena means we go ahead rain, hail or shine. It’s a great weekend to catch up with other Standardbred owners, watch some impressive horses go around, and see firsthand just how much these horses can offer beyond racing.
Entries will open in July, and we encourage everyone with a Standardbred – racing or retired – to consider giving it a go. You don’t need a wardrobe full of show gear or a float full of ribbons to be welcome here. Just a well-presented horse, a safe set of gear, and a positive attitude.

Let’s give the breed the recognition it deserves – both on and off the track.
