SAQ President’s Report – AGM 2025
As 2025 draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been another successful and rewarding year for the Standardbred Association of Queensland. Our community continues to grow in strength, passion, and professionalism, and it’s been a privilege to see our members and horses achieving excellence across so many events throughout the year.
One of the undeniable highlights of 2025 was the Annual State Hacking and Harness Championships held in September. The event showcased not only the versatility and talent of our standardbreds but also the dedication and sportsmanship of our competitors, officials, and volunteers. The atmosphere was one of pride and camaraderie, and it truly reflected what our Association stands for. A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone involved in making the Championships such a standout success — from the organising committee to the judges, stewards, and, of course, the competitors and their support teams.
It is important to remember that the SAQ is run entirely by volunteers. Every event, initiative, and improvement we deliver happens because of people generously giving their time, energy, and skills for the benefit of our community. As such, we ask all members and participants to be mindful of the effort that goes into keeping our Association thriving. Please continue to treat our officials, organisers, and fellow competitors with respect and kindness at all times.
We also take this opportunity to remind everyone that the SAQ Code of Conduct applies to all members and participants at every sanctioned event. Moving into 2026, the Committee will be taking a firm stance on upholding these standards. There will be zero tolerance for rudeness, intimidation, or negative sportsmanship. Where necessary, caution cards and written warnings will be issued without hesitation. This is not about punishment — it’s about maintaining the positive, respectful environment that allows everyone to enjoy our sport safely and fairly.
As we look ahead to 2026, I am confident that our Association will continue to go from strength to strength. Together, we can build on the achievements of this year, support one another, and ensure that the Standardbred breed and our community are represented with pride, integrity, and kindness.
On behalf of the Committee, thank you all for your contributions, enthusiasm, and support throughout 2025. Wishing you and your families a safe, happy, and relaxing festive season — and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
Warm regards,
Gaylene Bracewell
President
