Starlight is a quiet, quirky rising 20yo Grey Standardbred gelding who retired from racing in September 2011, earning $4,700 for his connections. With his racing days well behind him, Starlight is now looking for a special home where his individual personality and unique talents will be appreciated.

Starlight was started under saddle many years ago and has also responded particularly well to liberty and natural horsemanship training. He is a clever horse who understands and responds beautifully to hand cues and enjoys having a positive connection with his handler.

While Starlight can be a little flighty or nervous in unfamiliar situations, particularly when trail riding, he is very sensitive to the body language and emotions of the person working with him. For this reason, he would benefit from an experienced, calm and confident handler or rider who can help him build his confidence and bring out the best in him.

On the ground, Starlight is a soft and kind horse who can be a real smooch once he feels comfortable and lets his guard down. He is well behaved for the farrier, easy to catch, worm and tie up. He can be a little nervous when first asked to load onto a float,  but once he gains confidence, he travels well.

He would benefit from a knowledgeable and gentle home that can help him ease back into work at his own pace, or he would be equally happy enjoying a peaceful life as a much loved companion horse.

Starlight is being rehomed due to a change in his owner’s circumstances. He is looking for someone who will appreciate his sensitive nature, work with him kindly and patiently, and give him the time he needs to trust and build confidence.
