Although we have had to postpone our Annual Showjumping Gala due to weather, we have still been busy behind the scenes this month. We are looking forward to great weather for the new date of 27th August 2022.

Both Melissa Bell and I attended the 2022 Western Star Feature Race Day on 10th July 2022, hosted by Marburg Pacing Association. We were treated to VIP seating, delicious food and beverages. We were able to meet (very quickly) and get a photo with Grace Grace, the Minister for Education and Racing, along with other representatives from the industry. We enjoyed the very entertaining and harmonious NAIDOC celebrations, listening to the exquisite talent of Jahmarley Dawson, the Didgeridoo player/story teller and being blessed to join in with the traditional smoke ceremony. Laughs were shared with Denis Smith and we enjoyed watching some beautiful Standardbreds try their hearts out in their respective races. It was a wonderful day. Photos taken by Teichmann Photography can be viewed on our facebook page.

The July Training Day was a great success. I’d like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to Deb and Linda for stepping into to take the reins last minute, guiding the participants and engaging them in the activities of the day. People are really enjoying having the opportunity to attend, trying something different with low/no pressure for both their horses and themselves and, we have had a lot of good feedback about them. Our next training day is coming up on 20th August 2022.

Planning for our 16th Annual State Hacking & Harness Championships is well under way. States is the biggest event on our calendar and as the saying goes, “it takes a village”. States is our one event where we really need our committee and Standardbred community to band together and be available to help on the day- any help is greatly appreciated! I have set up the event on nominate and nominations are currently open, Mel has been busy organizing rugs, trophies and ribbons, Shona has been keeping social media updated and Kelly has landed some really great sponsors! Great work ladies!!! More sponsors are still sought after, so if this is something anyone is able to assist with, please let us know!

We are opening nominations in the coming days for Track to Hack video entries to give people a chance to qualify for the finale due to horse schedules of agricultural shows being cancelled following wet weather. Entries will only be open for 1 week!

Management committee have handed in paperwork and been approved by Centrelink for employment of eligible persons over 55yrs. We have received a couple of resumes and Mel has created some truly amazing documents to aid in the process of hiring these individuals. We are always looking for extra help on the committee so if you know anyone who would genuinely love to be a part of the committee, please, encourage them to reach out and see what roles we have available. We all lead such busy lives these days but many hands make light work.©

Thanks, Gaylene
